The Military Diet Day 2!

Day 2 and I’m still going strong on The Military Diet! I can feel my stomach getting smaller after every meal. My energy levels have been low so I have stopped exercising until after this is over because I don’t want to risk passing out.

Typical breakfast on this diet. I have a fried egg over toast. I was craving something sweet so I added a mini banana.   My lunch was actually really good. Here I have scrambled eggs, rice cakes, and sliced cheddar.   My dinner wasn’t as tasty as I thought it would be but it was very fulfilling. Here I have scrambled eggs, green beans (broccoli substitute), raw carrots with ranch, and frozen grapes (banana substitute). I put hot sauce on almost everything because it helps to burn more calories!   Dessert! Of course this is my favorite part each day. I actually only had half a cup of icecream because I was so full from dinner.  Here is my progress on Day 2. As you can see, my abs are becoming a little more defined. I can’t wait to finish this diet so that I can get back in the gym!

Overall, I’m really pleased with this diet. I really like that it is short term because I sometimes struggle with long term commitments and consistency! Stay tuned for more 🙂

The Military Diet

In efforts to lose a few pounds, I’ve decided to take on The Military Diet! As everyone knows, I am a cheerleader and gaining just a pound is unacceptable. I’ve gained 5 pounds since last year!

The Military Diet claims that you can lose up to 10 pounds in just 3 days without exercise if you follow their strict diet plan. So far, so good. I can definitely feel my fat eating itself.

For the next few days I will be posting my meals, workouts (voluntary), progress, and results. At the end of my diet, I will be posting a video to my YouTube channel. Below you will find what I had for each meal, at the end a picture, and my workouts.

So, breakfast was super fulfilling due to the massive grapefruit! As you may notice, I actually prepared my breakfast wrong from misreading. Day 1, I was supposed to have toast with peanut butter and not an egg! To drink, I had Mango Green Tea which was actually really disgusting. I think I’m going to stick to water for the rest of this Military Diet. I did notice that my food broke down a lot faster and I was starving within the next 3 hours.

For Lunch I had 6 rice cakes and half a cup of tuna. This definitely was NOT my favorite meal, but when you’re starving, you will eat anything! The diet plan calls for a slice of toast but you can substitute rice cakes instead. You can also find all substitutions listed on their website.
For Dinner I had 2 fried eggs, (which was equivalent to the 3 ounces the diet plan called for), 1 cup of green beans, and a small green apple. I had been anticipating this meal all day but it wasn’t as satisfying as I thought it would be. I did get full off of this meal but it didn’t serve my taste buds any justice. Bleh!
As you can guess, this was my favorite meal of the day! One cup of Vanilla Blue Bell ice cream. Yum! The diet plan calls for half a banana to go with the ice cream, but the bananas I bought weren’t any good, so I skipped the banana!

This is where I am at the beginning of the diet. I want to lose all the fat around my stomach and tone my legs. Later that night I worked out:

1 set =

  • 25 push-ups
  • 25 tuck ups
  • 25 lunge jumps

I did two sets of these after running a stadium of bleachers. After that, I did duck walks back and forth on a basketball court twice.

Overall this diet is pretty easy and simple but it takes a lot of discipline to stay on the right track and eat what you are supposed to. I don’t expect to lose 10 pounds, but I am hoping to get a little bit more tone and definition. This diet is more about my health and body composition than it is about a number on the scale. Stay tuned for the next few days! 🙂

Top 3 Reasons I Hate The Black People At My University

March Madness Day 2

hbcu

Attending a Historically Black College University after growing up in the suburbs has definitely been quite a transition for me. I’m no longer outnumbered or the only brown girl in my class. I’m no longer the only person with kinky curly hair. I’m no longer the odd person out and most of all I’m accepted by those around me. Everyone here looks like me and I fit in. Don’t get me wrong, growing up in the suburbs and attending a 5A high school was a great experience at times, but a part of me that I’ve never known until now was always missing.

Internal Battle by Keturah Ariel

There were few people growing up, besides my family, who could relate to or understand my “black problems”. I couldn’t understand why I was “different” from the other girls. Why are they size 0’s and I’m a size 4? Why do I have curves while they are cute and petite? Why can’t my kinky curly fro flow straight down my back? I needed answers but I wasn’t going to find them in the suburbs. I had to get out. And yes, at the mere age of 13, I was having a Self Image/Identity/Confidence Crisis.

It wasn’t until my senior year of high school that I began to love the skin that I am in. Really! I realized that the people around me and the media don’t get to choose what MY image of beauty is. I will never look like the models on the covers of the magazines but that doesn’t make me any less beautiful. Chasing what I will never be isn’t worth losing my self, my confidence, or killing my self-esteem. I have to embrace the beautiful, kinky hair, brown, curvalicious, individual God made me to be. And to make that possible, I decided I would attend a Historically Black College.

But my experience here isn’t what I thought it would be at all and here are the Top 3 Reasons I Hate The Black People At My University:

#3 Treat You Like An Outcast

You would think life would be easier when you’re surrounded by people who are just like you. That every thing would come easier because you don’t have to try as hard. That’s not the case at all. You have to try 10x harder and every one is your competition. If you choose to be a failure then you don’t fit in.

#2 Attttttttitude!

The people at my university are all about business. And when I say business, I mean networking and connections. You can’t have a conversation with a person without them handing you a business card and asking for your contact information. Even when you politely refuse, you are made out to be the bad person. No isn’t taken lightly for an answer around here and when it is, it comes with some major attitude.

#1 NEVER On Time

People here are almost ALWAYS early. I can never get a seat in class. Contrary to the stereotype of “Colored People Time”, the people at my university are about business and play no games when it comes to their education. If you want a good spot in class, it’s best you get there AT LEAST 10 minutes in advance.

Regardless of all the “pet peeves” at my university, I love it at the same time. I learned to accept and embrace who and what I am. I will forever be brown with curls and curves.
